Peace and Tranquility

"The gardener can provide the frame, set up his easel, and sketch the pattern, but as time marches on he must constantly step aside and hand over his brush to Nature.  This can be agony, to see all his cherished concepts being so drastically modified by Nature's ruthless fingers, but it can also be ecstasy.  As he looks over Nature's shoulder, watching the canvas change, wonderful things are happening.  An apparently insignificant curve in a far corner suddenly assumes a dramatic importance, because Nature has decided to make a golden acacia grow at unprecedented speed, stretching out its glittering arms in a gesture that demands an audience."
